Governance and structure

Hanover (Scotland) Housing Association is governed by a Committee of Management comprising of 15 elected and 3 co-opted members, all of whom have been chosen due to their particular knowledge in selected fields. 

The day-to-day running of Hanover is undertaken by Chief Executive Helen Murdoch and her team of Chief Officers and staff.

Helen Murdoch

Chief Executive

 

Helen joined Hanover in 1995 as Director of Housing and Care Services, becoming Chief Executive in 2007. With more than 36 years' experience in social housing (30 as a senior manager), she is particularly interested in strategic and business management, change management, housing policy and staff development. Helen is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Housing (1989), has an MBA (1993), is a member of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors and is an Associate Member of the Institute of Personnel Development.

Andrew Aitken

Director of Human Resources

 

Andrew joined Hanover in 2009 as Director of the newly-created Human Resources department. He has more than 14 years' experience largely within the public sector, covering operational and strategic requirements of HR as well as functional areas of equality,health & safety and learning & development. He became a member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development in 1996 and achieved Chartered Fellow status in 2006.

Gregor Booth

Director of Housing and Care Services

 

Gregor joined Hanover in 1994. He has more than 25 years of public sector housing experience in Scotland and England, including nine years of working within city and local councils. He was Hanover's East Area Manager for 13 years before being appointed to his current post in 2007. In 1987 he obtained the professional qualification from the Chartered Institute of Housing.

Colin Gibson

Director of Finance and Risk Management Services

 

Colin has more than 30 years' experience in public and private sector finance, including spells with the NHS, Ministry of Defence, local authorities and  overseas governments before taking charge of Hanover's finances. He has worked at a senior level since 1980 when he became Chief Internal Auditor for Grampian Health Board and has commercial experience as a financial controller for a hotel group. He joined Hanover in 1995 has been a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants since 1986. He became an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Housing in 2008.

Bruce Laing

Director of Property and Development

 

Bruce joined Hanover in 2008. He has 15 years experience in property management in a variety of sectors including consultancy and education; he was previously Estates Manager for Queen Margaret University.  He also has experience of the social housing sector, having been Senior Maintenance Officer with Hanover for five years. Bruce has been a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors since 1995.

Chris Milburn

Director of Business and Communications

 

Chris joined Hanover in 1999 as IT Manager. Prior to that, he had worked in the private sector in London and has more than 18 years' experience in ICT and systems management.  Chris was appointed to his current role in 2009 following the creation of the Business and Communications department.  Chris has been a member of the British Computer Society since 2004.
